THE LOGIC OF NICAEA
In A.D. 325, in response to the Arian interpretation of the meaning of “the Word of God”, the Council of Nicaea affirmed that truly God was directly at work in Jesus of Nazareth. In 2025, Christian churches celebrate their 1700th jubilee.
The American theologian Roger Haight, S.J. (*1936) will therefore interpret the structure of the ‘Nicene Creed’ in the context of a present-day intellectual culture once again. The author of Jesus Symbol of God (1999), Faith and Evolution (2019), The Nature of Theology (2022) and Facing Race (2024), to name but a few of his publications, will give an outlook on one of the most central doctrines of the Church in the framework of a Spirit Christology.
“Nicaea is a classic doctrine; its simplicity has given it universality; its depth has opened up many interpretations.” (Roger Haight, The Logic of Nicaea)
